Information to Prepare For Possible Snow Days: Online Learning & Bell Schedules

Summary: Moving Online if Needed Info.

Moving Learning Online If Needed

Things to Know

  • Per SPS direction, devices will be sent home when needed. When students return to campus, please have your student return their device to school. We use them for classroom instruction and need them on campus for in person learning.
  • SPS school operations provide schools with a 48-hour warning/prep, 24-hour warning to plan for remote instruction, and a final decision on standard in person school day, two hour late start in person school day, or remote instruction day.
  • Please note that the first day of remote instruction is a two hour late start. A snow day determination will be made by 5:00 a.m.
  • To be marked “present” in attendance records, please ensure that your child has logged on at some point during the day, or you’ve communicated with your child’s teacher your learning plan.

School Schedules

  • We hope to make remote learning easy for families to navigate. Grade level teacher teams will collaborate, so classes are combined and there are multiple adults in the learning spaces to support students.
  • There will be one Teams link per grade level for all day use.
  • Multilingual and Special Education will have their own Teams links.
  • Teams links will be sent by teachers after a snow day is announced.

Final Notes

  • We know that disruptions to learning and school are difficult for families. The idea of moving to online learning brings up lots of big feelings, especially for adults. We feel the same! Let’s name those big emotions for ourselves and our students. We should remind ourselves this is a temporary response to a weather emergency – not a long-term, indefinite plan!
  • We know all our families have competing needs and priorities. As a community, B.F. Day will continue to be flexible and prioritize the social-emotional needs of our students. This means we trust you to make the best decision for you, your student, and your family on a snow day and in the moment. If your student finds joy in sledding down a hill and socializing with neighbors outside, please know that we also cherish childhood memories like these. Seek out opportunities of excitement for your student – they are only little once! We encourage you to read together and discover moments of joy throughout the day. Reminder, as long as you’ve communicated your plan or made a presence online, your child will be marked present for the day.
  • We will provide learning opportunities, time for collaboration, and celebration for all students. We are equally committed to ensuring no one falls behind or misses anything essential during an online learning day.

Go Sun Dragons!
Best, Natalie
