    Strong Start Information

The district-wide Strong Start is September 4-11. Our priorities during Strong Start are two-fold: establish an initial connection with each student and ensure every family has the technology access that they need. During Strong Start, teachers will be working on family conferences and outreach to students from 8:30 – 10:30. Teachers will be provided about one hour of professional development in the afternoon, and will continue family connections from about 1:30-3:00. We will also be using the afternoon time to begin holding IEP meetings for students receiving Special Education services.

We are committed to beginning whole group classroom sessions once all families have the ability to access instruction. Classrooms will begin their first academic units the week of September 14. During Strong Start, your child’s teacher will provide supplementary materials for your child to review previous year’s content and warm up for school. The needs of every family will vary, and we will use Strong Start as an opportunity to ensure that all of our students are ready to begin a successful academic year on the 14.

Thank you for you willingness to engage in initial conferences and your patience during Strong Start. We’re looking forward to checking in and learning more about goals you have for your child this year.

Kit and initial Tech Distribution Details

Kit and initial Tech distribution will be as listed below. Students in Grades 3 – 5 will receive a laptop, all of which are configured and ready for distribution. Students K – 2nd will receive iPads, which are still in transit. Arrival date is sometime in the next 2 weeks. Our team is reviewing Tech Survey data and prioritizing immediate needs. We can make a laptop available for K-2 families with critical needs until the iPads arrive.

Thank you to those that completed our survey.  We have called all families that did not respond.  If you're unsure or if your need for a device has changed please call the office at 206-252-6010.

    First Day Packet Forms

All other First Day packet forms will be sent next week on School Messenger to your email with instructions for return/scanning. If you would prefer a paper First Day Packet please email cbauer@seattleschools.org and Ms. Carrie will mail your forms to you.

As you arrive at BF Day to pick up Kits, we ask the following

Please arrive at the north parking lot. If weather is dry, all distribution will take place outdoors. If it is wet, please plan to enter the north doors and exit from the center doors.

Tables by grade will be set up. There will be two separate tables for Tech. Each will be clearly labeled and staff will be available to assist you.

To keep the site as safe as possible, please wear a mask over both nose and mouth, maintain 6 feet of distance and keep family units together for overall safety.

    Strong Start

During Strong Start, teachers will be working on family conferences, small group check- in sessions from 8:30 – 10:30. We are committed to beginning whole group sessions once all families have the ability to access instruction. Whole group sessions are not likely to take place until the week of Sept. 14 . Please keep in mind that teachers spend a lot of time at the start of the year building relationships and routines. So, academic instruction will be slowing ramping up from the 14th on.

    Staff Information

We neglected to publish some information on Ms. Berlin, who will teaching 1st grade in Room 307:

    Hello BF Day Families

Jennie Berlin TeacherMy name is Jennie Berlin and I am enthusiastic about joining your school community.

I received my Bachelor’s from California State University Channel Islands with a focus on Teaching a Learning. I received my Teaching Credential through the Teaching Program and California State University Long Beach.

Through the program at CSULB I was able to focus on English Language Learners and equitable teaching in a diverse community.

Through my 14 years teaching in Elementary school I have been able to teach multiple grades. This allows me, not only know where your child has been alchemically, but to know the skills they will need to succeed once they leave my classroom.

Outside of the classroom I am busy mother who enjoys taking her child to Martial Arts and Ballet. We enjoy traveling to various beaches, finding playgrounds, collecting rocks, and playing Uno.

I am very excited to meet you all and be a part of your community of devoted educators and hardworking students as we all continue to be lifelong learners.

Thank you and I look forward to working with you. Jennie Berlin

Data Verification Form on Parent Source Accounts

Data Verification is available on the Source for a limited time, typically, from the first day of school through September.

IMPORTANT: Will be available to update from September 4 – September 30. This document is super important to check over thoroughly! During this window you an update any errors or make changes. Ms. Carrie & Ms Sonja have a goal for our families of 100% viewing of the online document. You can only do it once during this window and only one parent/guardian can complete the changes.

When this resource is not available, parents and guardians must contact school office, 206-252-6010, staff or the Admissions Center (206) 252-0760 to update your information.

    Office Hours

Staff will be in office beginning September 4 every weekday from 8:00 – 4:00. This is essentially to help staff and families over the phone or on email. This is not meant for school entry by parents or students, unless there are pre-arranged circumstances. Email is still the best way to get a hold of us, but our goal is to have the phone answered live at these times. We very much look forward to a time when we can see you in person in your school!
