    Counselor Corner

I am John Taylor and this is my fifth year as BF Day’s school counselor. Starting today I will post a short social/emotional blurb that you can read and maybe try at home with your child.

    Roller Coaster Breathing

Breathe in + slide your finger up one side of your finger -

Breathe out + slide your finger down the other side of your finger
    pic of hand
The contents of the weekly “counselor corner’ will reinforce skills and/or knowledge that we’ve discussed in my “life skills” class. The first “counselor corner” will explain a breathing technique we’ve been practicing with the primary grade levels during my “life skills” class. This regulation technique to works to close our lid and allow us to utilize the “wise owl” part of the brain (prefrontal cortex) , its called “Roller Coaster Breathing”.

Step 1: Open One Hand with your fingers wide apart.
Step 2: Use your pointer finger on the other hand to slowly trace the palm in this pattern.
Step 3: Start at the base of your thumb and go all the way to your pinky finger and back.
