    I hope you have a wonderful extended weekend this week and get time to spend with your children and to take time for any Memorial Day observance your family attends. Relax, Rejuvenate, and Revive for the run to the end of our school year, June 27.

    Linden Avenue Drop Off in Bus Zone

    Please refrain from parking, pulling in, parking backwards, or letting children off across from the Bus Zone area in the morning between 39th & 40th on Linden. None of these practices are safe. You can let students off near the park in the correct direction, you can let them off on Fremont (we have a staff member there in the morning). It is not safe nor courteous to park in the bus zone. Walking and/or biking to school helps your child learn better all day and helps our environment as you are able. Please talk to me if you need help with a solution for this issue.  

    BBQ Volunteers Needed

    Friday….June 14,2019 BBQ in the B. F. Day Cafeteria. Volunteers are need for this fun event. Please let Carrie in the office know if you can fill one or more of these slots. Reminder that this is Field Day also:

    9:00am to 12:00 noon 1 person
    9:00am to 1:00 pm 1 person
    10:00am to 1:30pm 1 person

    Popcorn Sales return this Friday

    Popcorn’s back! Thank you for the great support last week. Fridays until the end of the school year, the fourth graders will be out on the playground at dismissal selling popcorn for $1 a bag (additional donations are greatly appreciated!) to raise funds for their camp at Islandwood next year. Bus riders will also have the opportunity to purchase to-go bags. Please remind your bus rider to keep the bag closed until they exit the bus. Please come and support us!

    The Annual Fun Run Is ALL DAY Friday, May 31, 2019

    The Fun Run is one of the PTSA’s largest fundraisers and a great way to involve folks outside the school who value the kinds of the programming the PTSA helps fund (counseling and socio-emotional learning, the arts, extracurricular experiences, etc.)


    1. Students find sponsors for their run who pledge either a flat amount or per lap (these are recorded on the big envelope that is coming home). 2. On May 31 each grade level runs for a total of 40 minutes around a course at school (approx 0.10 mile in length) and their laps are counted (students average 20-30 laps), tallied and given to them on a tally card

    3. Students return to sponsors after the run to collect checks and cash in the envelope or give people their lap totals so they can turn in their pledges on line (an online option is available at

    4. Students celebrate their hard work at school with prizes and fun!


    • Help your runner brainstorm people who might care about education and the community’s school and talk through how to approach them. 
    • Sign up to volunteer that day. Please check out the Sign Up Genius and consider signing up for more than one slot and remember that no Seattle rain will keep our Sun Dragons from running towards meeting their fundraising goals!

    • Help your student follow up and collect their donations and get their envelope in on time (All envelopes and donations: Due June 14).

    Vote for your favorite stories to share2019 WWCPBA, OTTER and Sasquatch Awards voting has begun! Students at BF Day have been casting their votes for their favorite picture books fiction and non-fiction nominees over the past two weeks. Students must have read at least two titles in an award category to vote for that award.
    A popular complaint from BF Day voters: “It’s not easy to choose just one!”😉
    Voting results for BF Day, SPS and Washington state will be announced as soon as all votes are tallied. Stay tuned!

    B. F. Day Annual ArtFest Thursday, June 6 From 5:30-7PM  Artwalk!  Music! Dance! Much Much More!

    Hello B.F. Day Families!

    We are just a month away from the B.F. Day Annual ArtFest! Please join us Thursday June 6th for an evening of celebrating students and the arts at B.F. Day.

    ArtFest Schedule

    • From 5:30pm - 6:00pm there will be an art walk on the main floor hallway with student artwork. 

    • From 6:00pm - 7:00pm there will be performances by our music, dance and performance programs!

    PLEASE have your child bring in any and all works of art that they are proud to showcase. These can be either 2D, 3D or both! I will display work that students are proud of that they have done in my class or any other class or place that they made. This show is about them and what they are wanting to celebrate and what they feel pride in.

    They can drop off artwork anytime between now and the morning of June 6th. Work should be clearly labeled with student’s first & last name, in addition to their homeroom. All artwork will be labeled the night of the show and will be returned to them within the week after the show.

    Green Team Scavenger Hunt

    Your Green Team had a fun and educational field trip yesterday. Fremont is so fortunate to have this green-infrastructure site capturing 1.2 million gallons of stormwater runoff from the Aurora Bridge and cleaning it before it gets to our salmon/orcas. Please check it out when you’re in Fremont.
