    Dragon Quest Info

Attention Sun Dragons: are you ready to embark on a Dragon Quest? We find ourselves faced with another strange year and we will adapt as Sun Dragons often do. To the newest dragons in our den, we transitioned our Spring fundraiser from a Fun Run to a Dragon Quest! Instead of running in circles we will venture through the neighborhood in search of dragons (decorated Sunny the Dragon printouts). The quest will take place on Saturday, May 15th from 2:00-4:00pm. Keep an eye out for a pledge sheet and a Sunny the Dragon printout coming home in your child's backpack, or sent virtually to you to be printed out at home.

WHAT: BF Day Fun Run - Dragon Quest
Each student will pick up a Dragon Quest packet at the school during the week of May 10th. This will include a dragon print out for you to decorate and display as well as a donation log. Or you will be able to print your own materials at home (pledge sheet and Sunny the dragon printout).

    WHEN: Saturday, May 15th, 2:00-4:00pm
If for some reason you are not able to quest at that time, find another time on that day to head out. You are also welcome to quest on the before or after, last year we noticed that the dragons were out early and stayed a bit later.

    New Staff Next Year

It is BF Day tradition that we begin to announce any staff changes for next year and offer a short bio and pic of our new BF Day Staff. While the bios and pics are not quite ready, there are some initial announcements that I can make. Hiring is one of the most important tasks we undertake, as there is no single factor more influential to student success than a highly qualified teacher and instructional assistant in our classrooms. I am so proud of our hiring record and retention of staff here at BF Day. Here are some new additions to our team:

Mr. Ron Beck is moving to Texas this summer, which is way too long a commute! I am pleased to announce our new SEL teacher for next year is Ms. Lucille (Lucy) McMillan. Lucy is currently working in the SEL program at Laurelhurst Elementary in Seattle. She shows a strong skill set for working with students needing additional coaching and support in emotion regulation and we know she will be a good fit for our students. Welcome, Lucy!

Our new music teacher will be Ms. Bethany Grant- Rodriquez. Bethany is currently a music teacher at Roxhill Elementary in Seattle. She was our top choice this past fall to replace Mrs. Semandiris just as the pandemic-related hiring freeze was announced. We are so glad that Bethany is still available to join our team. She comes very highly recommended from our district music program manager and you will soon appreciate why!

Our Pre-school teacher in Room 202, Megan Rupert is resigning her position as she relocates to a new home in Tacoma. I am pleased to announce that we have hired Ms. Kate Olson to take this position. Kate is currently a Teacher at Graham Hill Elementary here in Seattle. We are excited to bring her to BF Day, where she has already been a visitor to the classroom and met with some of the Pre-school team. We tried to hire her once about 2 years ago, and we finally have our chance to have her at BF Day!

Stay tuned for an announcement on a Special Education Assistant who will be replacing Mr. Peterson and Mr. Schlichting in our SEL classrooms, as well as the expected classroom assignments for next year!
